The Noticer and the Builder
One of you wants to understand it. One of you wants it handled.
How a Noticer and a Builder carry hard things together: where you’re good, where it rubs, and what to say.
Find out which you areAbout a minute of quick taps. Then send it to them.
Where you’re good together
One of you sees the problem from every side and the other turns it into a plan. Together you make decisions that hold up.
Where it rubs
The plan arrives before the Noticer is done thinking and feels like being hurried. The thinking looks like stalling to the Builder.
What helps
Agree on the order: five minutes of what it is, then one small step. Both get their turn.
A Noticer might say
“Give me five minutes to think out loud, then I’m all yours for the plan.”
A Builder might say
“Tell me when you’re ready for the plan. I’ll hold it until then.”
Loving each other
If you love a Noticer
- Reassurance helps for a minute. One plain, true sentence helps longer: say it once, then change the subject.
- If they go quiet, they’re probably thinking something through, not upset with you. Ask what’s on their mind, and let them answer at their pace.
If you love a Builder
- If you just want them to listen, say so in words. They’ll switch gladly once they know.
- Tell them plainly when they’re running themselves into the ground. They won’t notice on their own.
