The Giver and the Feeler

One of you feels the whole wave. One of you is managing the room while it hits.

How a Giver and a Feeler carry hard things together: where you’re good, where it rubs, and what to say.

Find out which you are

About a minute of quick taps. Then send it to them.

Where you’re good together

The Giver can take the whole wave without flinching, and the Feeler makes the Giver feel less alone in caring so much.

Where it rubs

The Giver apologizes for the Feeler’s feelings. The Feeler feels managed instead of met.

What helps

The Giver does nothing for ninety seconds, on purpose. The Feeler says ‘this isn’t about you’ once it passes.

A Giver might say

“You’re not too much. Take your time, I’ll be here.”

A Feeler might say

“This isn’t about you. You don’t have to make it better.”

Loving each other

If you love a Giver

  • If they seem fine, ask again. Their first answer is often about keeping you comfortable.
  • When they finally say no, take it well. It cost them something to say it.

If you love a Feeler

  • Don’t tell them to calm down. Give them a minute, stay close, and talk once it has passed.
  • If they cry or snap, it isn’t a verdict on you, and it won’t last. They’ll want to make it right.

The two of you
