The Keeper and the Giver

One of you holds it in. One of you holds everyone else.

How a Keeper and a Giver carry hard things together: where you’re good, where it rubs, and what to say.

Find out which you are

About a minute of quick taps. Then send it to them.

Where you’re good together

You’re both generous, loyal and quietly good to the people around you. Together you take care of everyone.

Where it rubs

Both are fine on the outside, so nobody checks, and the Giver reads the Keeper’s quiet as something they did.

What helps

Say the small true thing early, both of you. ‘I’m not fine, and it isn’t about you’ is a complete sentence.

A Keeper might say

“It’s not you. I’m just quiet today, and you don’t have to fix it.”

A Giver might say

“You don’t have to tell me. If you want to, I’m here, and I won’t make it a thing.”

Loving each other

If you love a Keeper

  • "I’m fine" is often a reflex, not an answer. Ask once more, gently, and leave a pause.
  • Don’t push for the whole story. Make it easy to say a little, and stay with it when they do.

If you love a Giver

  • If they seem fine, ask again. Their first answer is often about keeping you comfortable.
  • When they finally say no, take it well. It cost them something to say it.

The two of you
